New book on Vacaville mixes photos of present, past

Carole Noske and Brian Irwin of the Vacaville Heritage Council recently had their book, “Vacaville: Then and Now,” published.  The Vacaville Heritage Council has, for years, earnestly collected photos and artifacts from all over Solano County.  The new book is a fascinating glimpse into what Vacaville looked like in the 1800s and what is looks like today.

Fifty years since the birth of the Monticello Dam

This month, Solano Irrigation District celebrated 50 years since the completion of the Monticello Dam, which forms Lake Berryessa.  In the process of creating the lake, a rich and fertile valley was lost, along with the small town of Monticello, which had been established in 1882.

Looking back on the birth of the Air Force

The Air Force is celebrating its 60th Anniversary

In 1942, Fairfield was a sleepy agricultural dot on the landscape. Ragsdale airfield, as it first was known, was originally planned to be temporary. However, the mission changed as things do in wartime and the airfield became the Fairfield-Suisun Army Air Base.

Vallejo writer Mel Orpilla chronicles a tragic era in Filipino-American history in his book ‘Filipinos in Vallejo’ Mel was born and raised in Vallejo, and early on had an insatiable curiosity about his familys and the Filipino Communitys beginnings.
